Refurbished KitchenAid Stand Mixer? Or Hand Mixer?

I've was never much of a baker, but this year, I started making bread and have been making more baked goodies. After using a manual hand mixer to cream sugar and butter, I feel it's time to upgrade. I could just get an electric hand blender, but am thinking I should just bite the bullet and get a KA stand mixer. Thoughts? What do you think about refurbished KA stand mixers?

  1. There is more than one good stand mixer.Your real concern is the POWER the rpms come from.A bit extra is realistic.
    America's Test Kitchen / Cook's Illustrated did a product comparison for power and real use as applied to bread.I agree with the results for home use.At the price point,will you use/utilise it? A refurbished machine may be OK.I have the smallest commercial HOBART,now it would be a large KITCHEN AID,counter mount,been to the shop once.It is now 42 years old.Maybe half its life under used a bit,the other half it earned its keep.
    Shop for power and price VIKING/CUISINART/KA all have good machines IMO.If I were in the market I would shop/price all three.
