"Oro Verdi Gelati" The Best Gelati?
Is it the best gelato I ever had?
In a tanning salon in Bensonhurst?
I had to taste this for myself...
I was coming back from "The Met" with my wife and remembered an article that read "The Best Gelato". I have been to many gelato places, each one being good, but not good enough to be called "The Best". We sampled every flavor Gino had. "Do you make this?" I asked, and with a nice warm smile he said "Yes... Do you like?"
I couldn't answer the man right away; my mouth was still in shock. This is excellent gelato! I have been numbed by bad ice cream, spumoni and different types of gelato, but this woke my taste buds right up!
Gino is still looking at me for an answer. I didn't want him or my wife to know I was having a party in my mouth and wish they would leave me alone. I finally answered;
"This is amazing!!!"
Do not deprive yourself; give this gelato a try and judge for yourself.
Yes, "Oro Verdi Gelati" is the best Gelato I tasted, Thank you Gino.

UPDATE: ORO VERDE MOVED to 9824 4th Ave at 99th St. in Bay Ridge. Inside Piattini. http://www.chow.com/places/52229
Spumoni Gardens we tried when couldn't find Oro Verde at the old closed location. Its the sort of place you'd like if you grew up with it. The pistachio turns your mouth flourescent green. Its more like Uncle Louie G's Italian Ice shop- nothing wrong with it, but its not really in the small artisinal gelateria vein.

Villabate doesn't even come close to L&B "Spumoni Gardens"...
You want the best cannoli in NYC? Villabate.
Great Spumoni/Gelato? L&B "Spumoni Gardens"...
"Oro Verdi Gelati" closed... Being a new business and the economy was just too much.›7 Replies-

Gino's gelato has turned up at Lia's, which opened last year in Windsor Terrace.

The Brooklyn Paper says Gino Cammarata just opened a cafe/wine bar (with gelato, of course) in Bay Ridge ... http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/...

re: squid kun
Sorry to say I had an unpleasant experience at Piattini. The place was deserted and wasn't doing anything to be more appealing. It seemed sloppy and not-really-open at 1 PM on a Saturday--kind of eerie. Most of the gelato tubs were empty and the one live person working there (I'm assuming it is Gino but I could be wrong) was perfectly surly when I ordered it and tentatively inquired about lunch (there was no food anywhere on view, no smells or sounds from the kitchen. The menu looked good but his attitude was enough to make us turn around with just my gelato. Cappucino flavor, foamy, melty, barely sweet, very good but just short of transcendent.
I don't want to speculate about why I found the place in that condition... could be many understandable reasons like he's gotten bitter over having a tough time in business with such a great product. I'd like to give him and Piattini the benefit of the doubt, but it would take a lot to get me to return.

We usually go to VILLABATE for Gelato in Bensonhurst, as well as their other delectable Sicilian desserts.
How would you say that this place compares?

re: Luke Constantino
Mamma Mia, I need a napkin to wipe the drool thinking about that damn cannoli from Villabate and the gelato from spumoni gardens.
Last trip into Brooklyn I took a photo of the tantalizing window displays at Villabate.
I would post it but at this moment , the photo is unclear due to my repetitive licking !!!!
Delizioso!
