Where to buy a Kyocera slicer/mandoline in Montreal?

Looking for this slicer/mandoline in Montreal (not the one that juliennes, though):
http://www.kyoceraadvancedceramics.co...

I've already emailed Ares and they don't carry it.

I ended up spending $29, tax in. on a Benriner. I was in Westmount and popped into the Japaense-wares store on Victoria and bought it.

It was more than I wanted to spend, but I think this is a good investment. It can do more than the Kyocera, and at least I bought it locally. Maybe if I cross paths with it, and it's a good price, I'll buy it for kicks.

    Thanks everyone!

I think you did just fine to get the Benriner - it is an excellent instrument, and it will be a work-horse forever. I love my benriner!

        moh-
my Benriner has gone a little dull from overuse-- have you tried to sharpen the main blade? Do you know if the little blades can be replaced?

I have not tried to sharpen my Benriner. But you can get replacement Julienne and main blades, if you google Benriner mandoline replacement parts, you get a bunch of sites such as this one:

          http://www.cheftools.com/prodinfo-new.asp?number=06-1326

          and this site:

          http://www.quickspice.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/scstore/cookware-slicer-blades.shtml?E+scstore

There is also this thread on mandolines on CH:

I couldn't specifically find a place in Montreal that sells replacements, but I imagine they could order it for you if you called up some of the bigger shops.

I noticed two models of mandolines for sale at Arther Quentin on St-Denis recently. I didn't note the brand though but you could always call and ask.

        Hey... good sleuthing, guys!
I didn't find the slicer on the DESPRES LAPORTE site, but I'll email them.

Admittedly, I did find it on Golda's Kitchen, which is a Canadian online store, but she wants about $30 for it! I'm looking for a deal, but.. I guess I could pay that much.

I can try that Korean grocery store.. next time I'm visiting my parents I'll stop in. I can also try Hawai in Ville Saint-Laurent, but I know they won't have any name brand stuff.

Let us know where you end up getting it. :-) After doing the store search on the Kyocera site I'm beginning to doubt anywhere in Mtl (other than maybe one of the Despres Laporte locations) will have it, as it was the only retailer listed for all of Quebec! There were a few places listed in Vermont, but they're about as far away as Sherbrooke, and with the exchange rate tanking again it's probably not worth a drive south just for that. Good luck!

Have you tried some of the Japanese/Korean groceries in town, like the one on Sherbrooke near Beaconsfield? I've been looking for a Kyocera ceramic peeler to replace the one my dad brought me back from Japan to no avail - have not found it in Montreal - so do let me know if you find the slicer as it might lead me to the peeler. :-)

There's a list of the groceries here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/4543...

          Good luck!

EDIT: just used the store locator and the closest place that officially carries the Kyocera slicers (and peelers!) appears to be in Sherbrooke - so if you're up for a drive.... or maybe they'll ship?

Side note - that's the strangest abbreviation for Quebec I've ever seen. ;-)

Després-Laporte also has stores in Granby and Laval, so bobloblaw might not have to schlepp halfway to the US to get his slicer.

Desprès Laporte isn't the only place listed on the Kyocera website.

              http://www.kyoceraadvancedceramics.com/wheretobuy/canada.html

Renaud-Bray seems to have what the OP is looking for: http://www.renaud-bray.com/Papeterie_...

EDIT: Looking again at the Renaud-Bray website, it would seem they are out of stock.

Double cool! I'll have to check it out for the peelers. That's really weird, because it doesn't show up when you do a search for stores near/in Montreal. I thought Renaud-Bray was a bookstore - who knew?!
