Birthday Lunch suggestions?

My birthday is next Friday! Looking for basically ANY good rec's. No sushi as I plan on going to Urasawa the week after for a belated birthday dinner, but other than that sky's the limit. No budget, no style preference just want a great experience...but perhaps it would be best to stay in either the Westside or LA proper(i.e. no valley). I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thanks, CHer's!

  1. I've been wanting to go to the Palate and to Campanile. Never been to either - I'd choose a place that wouldn't necessarily be on radar.

I've been curious about Palate as well, but was under the impression they weren't open for lunch?

    2. The lunch tasting menu at Spago, out on the enclosed patio.

That's actually a very good idea, I had always wanted to try their tasting menu. Just curious about the price though.

That reminds me, I had been pondering Providence as I know they serve lunch on Fridays. Anyone know if they offer a tasting menu for lunch?

They do have a tasting menu for lunch. And there's a good chance it would include truffles this time of year, if you'd like. You can e-mail them and ask. They're really good about getting back to you right away.

      2. The only day that Valentino is open for lunch is Friday, that could be pretty special.

Second this. I was going to recommend both Spago and Valentino's special Friday tasting menus.

Do you have an example of some dishes Valentino's TM might have? I've read past Spago TM's and that is still very tempting but I want to keep my options open for a few more days. I think I've narrowed it down to Providence or Spago or *blank*. So perhaps I didn't actually narrow it down all that much...grrr! aargh!
