Last-minute dinner: how's Telepan these days?

We made last-minute plans to be in the city next weekend (traveling from TX) and so far the only place I could secure a reservation (for our only free night) was at Telepan. I couldn't even come close to the big ones only a week out, and although I'm saddened by this, am not surprised. Has anyone been to Telepan recently and is this a good decision?

Any other recs would be great... Gramercy Tavern would have been my first choice (to give you an idea of what we might like or be looking for), but of course that didn't pan out.

Thanks in advance for any help! Also willing to go to any part of the city for a memorable dinner.

  1. I hadn't been in a few months but stopped by this weekend - it's just as fantastic as I remember. I had the Pumpkin Gnocchi and the steak, and my wife had the beet pierogi and the chicken - both were fantastic. We ate at the bar, so was a bit more of a casual night out, but I think Telepan is very much in the same league as Gramercy, etc.
