Dutch crunch bread?

Hello all - has anyone ever come by Dutch Crunch bread in Manhattan? I loved it in the delis in San Francisco, but have yet to see it here!

Thanks

Justin

    1. Unfortunately, no dutch crunch bread in NYC. In my experience, it's really hard to find outside of SF.

        1. You may also want to try asking for Marco Polo bread. I just picked up a Marco Polo bread round at Wegman's grocery store bakery in NJ (sorry, they aren't in nyc quite yet). It seems to be exactly the same as Dutch Crunch bread so maybe the name is an East Coast/West Coast thing.

I feel like I have seen Marco Polo style bagels at Fairway, but that was quite a while ago. It is definitely an artesian loaf - and delicious. Good luck!

OK - thanks for your replies! I'll keep looking. Sometimes I crave that stuff - it's amazing that some food can be so local (guess I better schedule a trip out West!).

              • find it at koryodang in koreatown (or throughout the boroughs):

Judging by pictures I found on-line, that appears to be the real deal. Great find bigjeff!

                    • I think the Fay Da bakeries may also have Dutch crunch bread (in small, individually sized rolls), sold as the "sweet topping bun": http://www.fayda.com/breads/bakedbuns...

It's hard to tell, but I'm not sure that's Dutch crunch. Doesn't look quite right and the top shouldn't be sweet.

ya that's just the ol' buo-luo-bao or pineapple bun. doesn't actually taste like pineapple but maybe just looks like it. i love it, but it's a mess; the dutch is a totally different creature.

Ah, rats. At least there's one known Manhattan source for the OP.
