Westchester/Fairfield County - Dinner for 10?

milano14 Oct 24, 2008 12:31 PM

Looking for good food, good atmosphere, within walking distance of other bars, for a group of 10. Moderately priced and any type of cuisine, doesn't matter.
We're looking for a restaurant where we could possibly have our own space or at least a more private corner of the dining room.
Any suggestions in Westchester or Fairfield Counties?
If I need to be more specific about what we're looking for, just let me know!
Thanks for any help in advance.

The walking distance makes it tough. In Fairfield county, Greenwich is an obvious choice because of Greenwich Ave and all the nearby spots. You can try Barcelona for drinks/tapas style dinner or one of the Japanese hibachi style places. Budget? Cuisine? I can help if you tell me more.

For moderate prices, good selection and walking to bars, the "T" in stamford seems right. It is lower Summer ST, starts at the Marriott Courtyard, past the movie theatres and then has all the bars at the perpendicular intersection.

Very Top End restaurants to fun and livelies.

Telluride in Stamford is a good choice, though possibly more expensive than what you're looking for. They have a large, round table off the end of the bar that might suit your needs.

South Norwalk is also an obvious answer, dinner for 10 at either Barcelona, Kazu, or Strada would be very reasonable and you'd be right there in the midst of the nightlife.

have done barcelona numerous times and is great. Strada 18 does not take reservations and would be a nightmare waiting for a table this size. Been there, done that. not pleasant

I would definitely go with Bacchus in South Norwalk. Best food in SoNo. Great wine. Great atmosphere and no problem accommodating 10 people.

I was just at Bacchus with a group of 6 and the food was average at best. I would not recommend it. The service was great but the food was not at all well prepared. Barcelona is a better choice.

That's very interesting. I ate at Barcelona a couple months ago and it was one of the worst, oversalted meals I've had in a long time. I'm surprised you didn't enjoy Bacchus.

you can try. they wouldn't for jfood a few months ago. And there is a problem with where a 10-top would be situated in the space. pretty tough space for 10. Osetra has that nice farmers table in the back that sits 12 though.

I have friends who work there, I'll have to ask them. If they don't take reservations for large parties - that's absurd.

A couple of good options for large groups in WP are Peniche (www.penichetapas) and Asian Temptation - both have great food and drinks with a loud, fun atmosphere. Also, plenty of bars within a couple of blocks walking distance. Definitely check out the Korova Milk Bar (www.korovamilkbar.com) for something a little different than what is offered from all the other bars on Mamaroneck Ave. The best part is you can get your dessert and alcohol intake all in one drink there!

If you want to get your money's worth in terms of outstanding food, I recommend Le Provencal in Mamaroneck.

It doesn't have the 'walking distance to bars' thing, but it's still one of the best restaurants for a large group in the area.

Oh and milano, heads up on Peniche -- they charge for bread, and be sure you park in a lot.

I would try either Peniche in White Plains or Ruby's in Rye. Both have more private areas, can easily accomodate your party and are within walking distance to lots of other bars in the area. Have a great time!

Wasabi Chi in SoNo is also fun. They have huge round booths in the back that you could fit 10 people at. Not sure how moderately priced it is, but we usually order a ton of small plates and share. Really good stuff...dumplings, anything with tuna, sushi, etc.
I also 3rd or 4th the Barcelona recommendation...have done a bunch of big tables there in the past.

Oh, again not sure on the bar thing, but La Paella Tapas Wine Bar & Restaurant in Norwalk is reasonable, friendly, and the food is OUTstanding. You can't find a better tapas place in the Tristate area.
