New Year's Eve in Providence

A group of 10 or 12 from Massachusetts wants to have a first class dinner at an upscale restaurant on New Year's Eve. The only good restaurant in Providence that I know is Al Forno but they are not open NYE. Looking for suggestions for other first class restaurants.

  1. One of the best New Year's Eves we have ever had in Providence was at Mills Tavern. We had late reservations, we had cocktails, dinner, then at midnight we walked outside and watched the fireworks, then came back in for dessert. It was perfect. At the time the food was very good, I am not sure if they are still doing well, but it is a nice restaurant.
We also did that at Cafe Neovo, you can walk out and see the fireworks. That New Years I felt they were at bit unorganized which made our evening sort of tense, but the food is always good there. Best of luck!

    1. I bet Gracie's would be a good bet for this.

      1. We did New Years Eve 2000 at Camille's on the Hill, and it was phenomenal. It was back before they remodeled though, and we had a table in an alcove, and it was just lovely. They had commissioned an artist to craft favors for the evening (glass paperweights), which we still have. I'm not sure what it would be like now, but they will probably be open.

        1. Avoid the Mills Tavern, I met their kitchen staff out one night & heard their horror stories. The best restaurant in town, Chez Pascal.

A second to Chez Pascal. They're out of the way and very low key, but the food is excellent. They would definitely treat you well also!

          2. Cafe Nuovo is a fantastic place to eat, beautiful view of River and yes fireworks.. Food is probably best in Providence. Gracies is another very nice, upscale and great food also! One of my favorites

I really have to disagree on the notion of Cafe Nuovo as the "best in Providence". Yes, it's pretty, and because of it's location on the canal, it's well-suited to certain occasions, New Years Eve probably being one of them. The food is acceptable, but I find it totally overrated. Nothing memorable at all.

As well as being about 25% overpriced.
