Jamaican in Cape Cod

luci Oct 23, 2008 12:25 PM

We had lunch at the Jerk Cafe in S. Yarmouth today. Across from the Riverway Lobster House, this hole in the wall located in a less than pretty strip store row offers delicious West Indian style cuisine. Today we sampled curry chicken and jerk chicken. Both were served with lovely rice and beans and fresh veggies including butter beans, cabbage and carrots. The owner Chef Shrimpy is a fun loving character with a personality the shines and food that warms the heart and fills the stomach. He has oxtail, fish, shrimp and other creative dishes.

He promises to have Ting, patties and Jamaican Breakfasts in the near future.

Luci, a great recommendation ~ I hope Jerk Cafe catches on here on the Cape. I was there today, nothing fancy, but a great little hole in the wall type place. I am looking forward to checking out future offerings by Shrimpy! Meanwhile, I hope others can get behind a welcome addition to the ethnic food scene (such as it is) on the Cape.

Speaking of Jamaican on the Cape, does anyone have an opinion about Iriecorna in E. Falmouth? I noticed their sign when I was passing through in September, and I'll be in the neighborhood tomorrow. They claim to be the best Jamaican restaurant on Cape Cod, which amuses me more than it probably should. Sadly, their web site is a bit broken and only lists summer hours, so I don't even know if they'll be open.

Jerk Cafe sounds promising too, so maybe I should hold out for lunch in Yarmouth.

very strange tread. but is the Jerk Cafe still there? I am trying to picture where it is. across from Riverway there is Doyle's and Olympia's. where is this in relation to those?

Jerk Cafe was open a month ago. It is in the strip mall x from Riverway. Shrimpy has authentic Jamaican fare and is a good guy.

Yes, still open, and as phelana stated it's in the small strip mall right next to Wok 'n Roll.
