I'm looking for a good restaurant for dinner for Saturday night. My guests and I like all kinds of food. Must have some ambiance, attentive service, some signature dishes would be nice. Friends live near these towns and do not want to venture into Boston. Suggestions appreciated.

  1. Vela, in Wellesley Hills on Washington Street is excellent. It is subterranean but very nice inside,-white table cloths etc. Very attentive service and delicious food. The owner was a chf in the North End before opening this place.

Maxwell's 148 on Route 135 in Natick just over the Wellesley line is also excellent. You will be greeted warmly and the service is outstanding. The food and ambiance are also excellent. The chef and manager are co-owners. The menu is very diverse and their bread basket is great. Ming Tsai is a regular customer.

Which reminds me, Blue Ginger is also an excellent choice. Had dinner there a couple of weeks ago and it was excellent.

Ya know, Ming gets a bad rap here, but I had a late lunch a few weeks ago that was excellent. I think if you think of the place as a nice restaurant, high on quality, rather than the cutting-edge type of place we expected at the beginning, you'll do well...

    2. Sel de la Terre at the Natick Collection

      1. Coach Gril in Sudbury for a steak house option?

Blue Ginger is a must try if you are looking for something fool proof in the area. It is pricey though. As for another solid, I would say the Coach Grill. Great service and menu. Also, for a lesser priced meal go for the Cottage in Wellesley! Google them all they have websites...

Ambiance and attentive service- the Cottage?? NOT .No reservations, long waits, overrun by kids, inept service, no ambiance and mediocre food. Ok to go with kids and they have an ok hamburger but I don;t think this is what th op wants.

I agree with you on everything you said about The Cottage, however, just for clarification, The Cottage has been accepting reservations via Open Table for months now.

Years ago, we went to Allegra and always enjoyed the food, but I think it's gone now. Haven't been back to the area in a while. Any restaurants in particular that you like?

            3. I really appreciate all your suggestions. I've made a list and will check websites and availability for tomorrow night. As always, you've been a great help!
