rocky mountain food and wine festival
Hi! Did anyone attend the rocky mountain food and wine festival in Calgary last weekend and are many planning on attending the one in Edmonton this weekend? I have to work this weekend so unfortunately I can't go. What are your opinions of it?
I went to the Edmonton one 2 years ago, and was very disappointed. No really good restaurants, and the wine selection was very dismal. I go to these things expecting quality - an opportunity to sample wines I might not fork over the money for without tasting it first. So I don't need to have Yellow Tail, Voga, Red Bicyclette, etc - $10-15 wines - selling me shots for $1 or $2 a piece.
I remember only a couple of really interesting wines being offered, stuff in the $40 - 50 range (not that price is an indicator of quality, but...) but they were charging around $6 for a little 2 oz sampler, so the distributors were actually profiting off their samples.
I heard similar tales from last year's event; I have no plan on returning.
I went a few years ago in Edmonton and really didn't like it. It was like Taste of Edmonton where you have to buy tickets to try stuff but you also had to pay to get in. I was a student at the time with no money so maybe that's why I felt so ripped off buying so many tickets for small tastes of wine or food. I still wouldn't go back though.
