Reco's for Stone Mountain GA vicinity?

We're heading south to Atlanta this week-end for a last-minute, 3-night getaway (our first visit in years). Thanks to previous posters here, we now have a number of possibilities for dining in downtown, in Buckhead, etc. But, it would be great to have some suggestions for places to eat near the Marriott Evergreen resort or en route between the Evergreen and Atlanta proper.

Most interested in recommendations for early breakfast and Sunday evening -- preferably not Italian or Asian since there are so many fine options for those in NYC. Thanks for your assistance!

  1. I can't really help you on the recs, but I do want to tell you that the breakfast buffet at Evergreen is quite good. We did the dinner buffet there one night and, while adequate and better than any of the restaurants within the park, one does have to have a big appetite to make it really worthwhile.

Thank you, grampart -- it's nice to know that the Evergreen can be a decent fall-back; do you remember if grits are among the breakfast offerings? Those are rarely seen in NYC :-)

I can't say that I specifically remember grits on my plate, but I'd be very surprised if they weren't offered. FWIW, there's a Starbuck's inside the Evergreen also.

    2. have you considered the decatur area for dining...also for beverage consumption?

There is a multitude of quality places to dine in decatur...all price and dress code ranges.
You are unlikely to find above decent food in stone mountain.

We're definitely considering Watershed, jimbo, but we'll welcome additional suggestions in Decatur... perhaps a not-too-noisy bar (wine or full service or beer pub) with decent eats, and maybe jazz, blues or acoustic?
