Brown or beige wedding favor cookies?

My wedding's coming up and I'm making cookies as favors. I'm making cut-out cookies in the shape of a moose, as a little homage to fiance's hometown in New England and because he gave me the moose cookie cutter just before he proposed.

I'm looking for a non-white (so they look more moose-like, naturally...) cutout cookie recipe that I can preferably make ahead. I tried a chocolate-gingerbread recipe from Martha and while it looked good, it tasted ehh. I guess I'm more partial to the brown sugar/molasses cookies than the gingerbread.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

I think maple flavour would be ideal. It's more 'of the region' than molasses. Where in tarnation did he find a moose cookie cutter?

Yeah, I'm definitely planning on going the maple route now. Not sure where he got it, somewhere in New Hampshire, I'll ask him. It sure is cute!

That is probably as 'cute' as a moose is going to be!

Here is a recipe for maple cut out cookies. They came out tan colored. I used a leaf cutter, and the dough didn't spread when baking. I don't know how the maple glaze is though. I didn't have maple sugar so I used brown sugar and improvised with some additional maple syrup. The modified glaze that I made crystallized the next day so it was cloudy in spots.

Thank you! We're big maple lovers but I had never thought about maple cookies. Looks like a good recipe.
