Need Ideas: Weekly Grub Club in SFV

  • Share

What started as a weekly meeting of car enthusiasts has morphed into what we now call the Wednesday Night Grub Club. Our single goal is to eat at a new restaurant every week (although lately we've been repeating). The simple rules are: cheap, good eats in the San Fernando Valley. Our problem is we're running out of places to go.

So recommend away with your favorite cheap holes in the wall. Thanks!

  1. Sounds like fun! Off the top of my head, here are my thoughts (based on the rules and theme):
    Beeps
    Sherman Room
    Valley Ranch BBQ
    Mom's BBQ
    Horseless Carriage
    LA Pasta
    Puro Sabor
By the way, what kind of cars?

    1. Puro Sabor Peruvian in Van Nuys
Las Quenas or El Hatchay for Peruvian
Pho So 1 in Van Nuys
Tangy Thai has good specials on Sherman Way (i think that's right...)
Firehouse on Reseda for Greek or Alexis in Northridge
Thai places on Sherman Way - Sanamluang, Bua Siam, Khun Dang, Sri Siam
Super Pollo for great rotisserie chicken
      Golden State Pizzeria
      Won's Coffee Shop
      Amir's Falafel in studio city
      Kyushu Ramen
      Dos Arbolitos
      Carillo's Deli
      Melody's or Las Fuentes
      La Fogata on Van Nuys
Nica's Kitchen for Nicaraguan in NoHo

      ....lots to try...

      1. Ba Le Valley (Vietnamese), on DeSoto just north of Sherman Way. Great food and prices, family-run, always good.

        1. Any geographical parameters other than "in the valley". and as to price point - how high becomes higher than you want to spend. Is $20 a person too much, or ?
And, lastly, how many in your group on a typical Wednesday?

          1. *Skaf's Grill (Not the easist parking thou) Laurel Canyon & Oxnard
            *Philadelphia Sandwiches
11112 Magnolia Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601
*Uncle Andre's BBQ Colfax & Moorpark
*Kansas City BBQ Magnolia (between Cahuenga & Vineland)
*Joe Peeps Whitset & Magnolia (I believe)
            * Dino's Pizza Burbank & Hollywood Way (in Burbank)

            1. re: 420 Reasons to eat

Thanks for the replies so far. As for some of the questions above:

              Our group ranges from 4 - 10
The attendees live in the North SFV (Chatsworth, Northridge, Granada Hills) and Valencia.
Restaurant prices for places we've been range from $1 (Stand Mondays) to $20/hd
The meet started as a Subaru (WRX and STi) meet. It's now just friends who happen to be car nuts.

Then I would add Los Toros on Devonshire between Topanga and De Soto, on the same block..Les Sisters. Parking may be a problem...but Casa De Pizza on San Fernando Mission at Woodman I believe. The Safari Room on Devonshire just west of Sepulveda, for a cheap steak or blt. The Mandarin Deli on Reseda near CSUN (can't remember the cross street).
