Birthday Dinner in LES for family & 4 young kids

malibu Oct 22, 2008 04:12 PM

I have a conundrum. My sister-in-law and her family are coming for a visit from London. While they are here, it will to be my niece's 3rd birthday. Sis-in-law wants to go for kid friendly dinner where we could have a cake or something celebratory at the end of the dinner. Not having any children of my own, I have NO IDEA what is appropriate or where to go for a kid-like or kid friendly meal. Her bday is next Tuesday. There are 4 girls- aged 1 year, 3 years, 5 years and 6.5 years, plus my husband and sis and brother-law.

I think the whole thing is insanity, but I figured I might as well reach out to the Manhattan hounds. I would like something preferably in the Lower East, East Vil or really anywhere below 14th. Money is not an issue. Help!

      Usually a great choice but:
      1. they don't take reservations
      2. they're so small I don't even know where they'd put a party of 7 that included 4 kids
      3. they're cash only
      4. not sure they even have cake -- I know they have pie, muffins, and ice cream

I would try Bubby's instead? They are quite kid friendly, have crayons for kids, etc. Not sure that there are that many kid friendly places on the LES. If Chinatown is an option, a lot of Chinatown restaurants are used to having families in there, but most don't take reservations, and you do have quite a large party, so there might be a wait. However, most of them are equipped with large, round tables, and I've seen a high chair or two as well.

Some good ideas here- never thought chinatown, but will have a think on that. Bubby's is a good one. Lombardi's seems to always have a tourist line snaking down Spring- which is why I nixed that one.

And yes, anywhere below 14th I am game for hearing about! Thanks so far guys.
