My husband is obsessed with this place - he eats there once a week. A friend of ours who just moved here from India did a "survey" of the Indian restaurants in the area, and named this one of the best. I have yet to try it, but I've only heard good things.

He said at lunch it's a $9.99 buffet, and for dinner it's a sit down restaurant. His favorite is the chicken tikka masala, but he said they have great naan and a wide range of other dishes to choose from. He also said that it's very nice inside, kinda "Sunset Blvd." if you will.
However, now knowing that you're from NYC, I'm not sure how our food is going to compare to yours! There are a few restaurants in Gaithersburg that he'd vouch for, so let me know if you'd like additional suggestions.

Moby Dick is good - someone told me that they're doing a special right now, and that you can get chicken koobideh (the ground chicken kabobs)! I've always lamented the fact that chicken koobideh is missing from their menu. I prefer Caspian's, which is in the Kentlands, but both are good.
I really like Rainbow African Restaurant in Old Gaithersburg. It's not glamorous, but the food is great.
And Dogfish Head is a microbrewery - if you like beer, it's a fun place to get a beer sampler and eat some cheap bar food. The place is noisy and gets really crowded around 5pm, but it's fun for happy hour and it has a nice upbeat vibe.
If you're venturing into Germantown for any reason, let me know and I can give you the info for our favorite spots up here (it's not exactly a happening place).
I hope you have a nice trip - the leaves are starting to turn, so it's prettier than usual around here at the moment.
