Harrisburg & Reading

Now that I am based in Philadelphia, I have to travel to various parts of Pennsylvania for work. I am going to be in both Harrisburg and Reading next month and I am looking for both lunch and dinner recommendations. Although I am on a corporate credit card, the current economic conditions preclude me from eating the way I used to, so more moderately priced restaurants are what I am looking for. In addition, I would certainly love to try any "local" cuisine or unusual dishes not found outside of these areas. However, don't leave out great "common" cuisines either. When I say I am a "chowhound" you know that I will try anything. Thanks for your help.

If you are in downtown Reading and want to get a flavor of the place, you might want to try the Marvel Ranch, which is right on Penn Street. It's definitely not fancy and they don't take credit cards but you will definitely get your money's worth. Their soups and chili in particular would fit in at a much fancier place.

See my separate post on the Marvel Ranch.

one of my favorites in Reading for dinner is Austin's. its in west lawn (past the Berkshire Mall) http://www.jbdawsons.com/austins/hour... its been about 2 years since i have been there since i don't live in Reading anymore, but every time i have been there has been excellent.

V&S Sandwiches is place to go for Lunch. they are dotted all over the reading area, but the best one is still the original in Shillington, on Lancaster Ave.

another good place for food is Trooper Thorn's Irish Beef House. its a bar on route 10, the beer selection is awesome and so is the food. i suggest the "Irish" onion soup. the only drawback is that it is tiny!
i will try and think of some other good places...
