Whole bean coffee in/around Stamford?

Does anyone know of a good place in or around Stamford to find whole bean coffee?

  1. Can you be more specific about what you are looking for? Not sure Starbuck's, a grocery store, etc, are the answers you are looking for.

BTW, I really like Costco's Columbian Supremo beans, especially at 3 lbs for $10, about 1/3rd the price of Starbucks, which is good, but over-roasted, IMHO.

Ideally, I'd really like to find a small shop that roasts their own beans - although I know that's a stretch. Anywhere that offers fresh roasted beans and is more of an independent coffee specialty store versus a chain like Starbucks.

      Thanks!

        OK, thanks.

While I've never tried it, maybe someone could weigh in on Stew Leonard's? I know when you first enter the store, right after the baked goods, they have a roaster and a wide selection of beans.

I only buy Stew Leonard's coffee and usually mix a few different kinds together. Always good and tasty and then you get their great light cream to go with it. If you buy more than 2lbs it is a little cheaper. So make sure to weigh it at the coffee stand first to make sure it is over the 2lb. Hope you enjoy it.

    2. Consider Zumbach's in New Canaan.

cteats: Where is it and how much per pound? What type of coffee do you driink?

        1. re: nbermas

he roasts it there and it depends what type you are looking for. It is more expensive than Stew's >$12/lb.

It is just west of the train station on the same street as the post office. worth the drive

Zumbach's is burned smelling. I used to work across the street and everyday that we had the window open I would run around looking for a fire until I was reminded that Zumbach's was roasting that day.
Stew Leonard's is pretty good and varied. Starbucks and Zumbach's are both for those who like their coffee on the bitter side.

            1. re: lillydaisy

You can defintely get bitter tasting at Stew's for half the price and go home with the cream too!

just go in and speak the the guy with curly salt/pepper hair and ask him for advice. He owns the place and is a wealth of knowledge.

      2. Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'm going to have to check them all out.
