Must be the steak cut...

Lately I've been craving for some good beef, and it has led me to check out two steakhouses and a Korean BBQ restaurant- all in Queens.

Twice in two consecutive weeks I got delivery from La Boina Roja at 80th St. Both times I had the Skirt Steak aka Entrana (medium well). I never paid attention to steak cuts until now, but I could have sworn the steaks I'm used to were less chewy and tougher. Nonetheless the meat was tasty, and the sides of rice and beans, and platanos were great.

I went to Kum Gang San last week with a big group and shared a good amount of food. Their complimentary appetizers were ok, and not as varied as I'm used to. For BBQ we shared the mixed seafood, beef, and pork. The beef was marinated well, and we couldn't get enough of it. I'd probably go back again for the beef, but it'll be awhile bec. it didn't sate me enough for what I was paying.

Today I got the 1/2 skirt steak (medium well) at La Fusta for takeout. The steak was smaller than La Boina Roja's, but it was less chewy and more tasty. The next time I'll go here I'll either order out one of their pastas or eat-in and have a meal with wine or sangria.

Any other steak suggestions in the LIC/Astoria or JH/Elmhurst areas? Peter Luger's in Brooklyn is not an option due to budget concerns, and I'd like to keep my meals below $30.

Skirt steak can be very chewy if it isnt cut properly, against the grain. the first time I made a skirt steak I made that mistake and it was horribly tough to chew though flavorful.
