Best Philly Steakhouse

  • 7

What is the best steakhouse in Philly? I will be going to the Giants game there on Sunday night in a couple weeks and want to treat my dad to great steak dinner beforehand. I am considering the Prime Rib or maybe Barclay Prime. Please do not recommend Morton's, Ruth's Chris, Capital Grille, etc. I am looking for a steakhouse that is unique to the area- not a chain or something I can get in NYC.

  1. uh, isn't Prime Rib also a chain?

Barclay Prime is excellent, unique in the sense that it seems much more modern than the classic steakhouse, but food and service are still top notch.

Barclay Prime is much better than the Prime Rib. The Prime Rib *is* a chain, but a small one, they have 3 locations.

Yes it's a chain I guess since it has a few locations but I heard its spectacular and there isn't one in NYC.

The Prime Rib Does have three locations, all owned by the same people. So, you don't have franchises with different owners. To me, that is slightly different than the typical chain where the quality can vary because of the different owners.

That being said, The Prime Rib is my favorite steakhouse in town. It is a nice relaxing old style dining experience.

Their potato skins are outstanding as is the vanilla sundae.

What about that new Stephen Starr place, Butcher and Singer at 15th and Walnut? I haven't been, but the print ads I've seen make it look like a 1940s, nightclubby steak, chops and martini boite.
