a tourist's report
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for the wonderful recommendations. We had our first real meal at EAT, where we started with a blue cheese and fig torte which was very good, but kind of enormous for an appetizer! Delicious, but I'm glad we split it. For an entree, I had the BBQ shrimp. I'm not sure how it measures up to the "traditional" version, but they were outstanding.
Over the course of the weekend, based on 'Hound recommendations, we also did Felix for oysters, Rio Mar for dinner, and Rambla for our "last meal". I especially liked the tres leches at Rio Mar (as well as the friendly service) and <i>everything</i> at Rambla. Again, I thought the portions were almost too large though. I usually order 3 plates of tapas to start and maybe one more after that. My husband and I ordered 2 plates each, which we shared, then split a mousse, and were totally stuffed. I would personally prefer lower prices and smaller portions, but I think I may just not have been in New Orleans long enough!
Sadly, we didn't have time to go everywhere we wanted to go. A return trip is definitely in order, maybe as soon as next year. Thanks again, you have such a friendly and wonderful city!
