STARFISH - MERRICK BLAZE DESTROYS THREE BUSINESSES

davmar77 Oct 20, 2008 07:51 PM

An early morning electrical fire in Merrick destroyed three businesses yesterday, Nassau County authorities said. The fire, likely caused by a faulty electrical cord and deemed accidental, tore through the Bagel Boss bagel shop, a Robecks smoothie franchise and Starfish restaurant, said Vincent McManus, division supervisor for the Nassau Fire Marshal's Office. A baker working at Bagel Boss at 2101 Merrick Rd. was in the kitchen when he smelled smoke coming from the dining area, McManus said. The baker tried to put out the fire with water before calling for help. The Merrick fire department received the alarm at 1:52 a.m. It took several hours for Merrick firefighters, with help from eight other departments, to bring it under control, McManus said.

just heard about this.

Here's a picture, if anyone cares, of Starfish et all, up in flames.

He tried to put out an electrical fire with water? Was gasoline not available?

All the available gas in the area was already used up char-grilling the "Five Guys" burgers to a cinder,

Hey guys, I have to take my SIL to lunch right in that area for her birthday Tuesday, what would be a good idea? She doesn't like burgers unfortunately. I would have insisted on Starfish if it was open.

Nicholas James is just the kind of food she loves, although I think she lives right next door and has used them for catering. So that may not be so special for her. Now Yuki's is right up my alley, but I'm not sure how she feels about sushi: she leans towards Italian and is sad that Nick d'Angelos has changed. On the other hand, I was sad when it changed from Rte 66 or whatever it was called. That's a steakhouse now I think, she was saying she's not into it because of how the outside looks, but maybe it's not bad (still George Martin, right?)

Someone at work told me they're going to JDs on the Bay in Merrick on Valentines Day and that it's really nice. Anyone been? They don't have a real website.
