Best BBQ in St. Louis near my doctor?

I'll be in St. Louis this Wednesday and would appreciate recommendations for great BBQ for DINNER near my doctor's office: 4921 Parkview Place - downtown at the Wash. Univ. School of Medicine. Can take cab or walk, but it must be a safe location as I am traveling alone. Thanks!

  1. You are less than 3 miles from Pappy's Smokehouse, just voted mbest BBQ in St Louis by The Riverfront Times. Watch out, if you are going for dinner, they are open until they run out of that day's meat. Try to get there before 7.

And while you are in the neighborhood, try The Fountain On Locust for some ice cream, served either as dessert or in a martini...

NOTE: Your doctor's office is not downtown, it is in the Central West End.

    1. Doug has nailed it. The people at Pappy's are very obliging, and will be happy to call you a cab for the return trip, too.

      1. Pappy's is excellent; by far the best BBQ I've ever had in St. Louis. If you are a rib lover, their baby backs are great. If you go for pulled pork, I strongly advise you to order it "with the bark" so they don't trim off the crispy, crusty bits. I liked the brisket, but my mom thought it was weaker than the others. They also do good sides -- my family loves the thin sweet potato fries seasoned with cinnamon, while I preferred the more traditional cole slaw and potato salad. Very hardworking and friendly owners and staff.
