CHOW DOWN IN CARLSBAD

Looking for good places to chow down in Carlsbad and surrounding areas (Enicnitas, Solano Beach, etc.). Good food, reasonable prices, nothing trendy, nothing "too-too." We like fresh seafood but reviews of the local restaurants by the Chowhounds say the food is OK and is overprices. We're easy to please - if we get desperate we'll pick up a rotisserie chicken at Sam's Club!

Trattoria i Trulli for outstanding, innovative Italian on Coast Highway in Encinitas.
Quero for Peruvian and South American fare on Coast Highway in Encinitas.
Pipes Cafe for huge, cheap breakfasts and a beachy atmosphere in Cardiff by the Sea.
Tony's Jacal for family-run Mexican (their specialty is turkey tacos, etc.) in Solana Beach.

For seafood go to Fish House Veracruz. There is one in Carlsbad and San Marcos. The San Marcos location is larger and tends to be less crowded. They also have a great fish market.

Pelly's Fish Market in Carlsbad for wonderful and affordable ($8 - $9 for a sandwich/$12 -$13 for a plate) fresh seafood

Kaito in Encinitas for the best sushi in the county, again at very reasonable prices for the quality and expertise.

Bety's Tacos in Encinitas for very affordable and delicious Mexican food

I would also add Don Chuy in Solana Beach as a good place for affordable and delicious Mexican food.
