International Ave Calgary
A quick drive down 17th Ave on the NE gives me a bit of a shiver. I am told it's not a really nice part of town. But I'm super duper curious with all the different ethnic eateries there must be some that are worth the risk.
I've seen Desert Bakery mentioned a few times on this board so next time I'm out that way I'll go try it out.
Does anyone else have a favorite eatery that they favor on this strip?
It even has a nice clock on of the meridians. It must have been important at one point of Calgary's history.

You mean SE, I think. I doubt there is anything special on 17th Ave NE.
One place that absolutely defines "hole in the wall" is "Middle East Bakery" on the NE corner of 17th Ave and 52 St SE. They have AMAZING sfeeha. Nice people too.

Yes you're probably correct. I must be mistaken. Whatever is International Ave.

Sleepycat,
I would not say favorite eatery, but there are a lot of good eateries on this strip (a lot of bad ones too). I havent had a chance to explore as much as i would like, but places i've found that i've enjoyed include:
El Bombazo, La Casa Latina, Green Grato, Pho Dau Bo, Mimo, Baba Ka Dhaba, ME Bakery
Places I didnt like include:
dumpling house, la dao, the korean restaurant that is down there, Pho Hoa

We ordered the Fresh spring rolls which were fresh, bigger and cost more than the average Salad roll. We also had the Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio and the Bun bi Cha Gio which were mostly the same thing. It was grilled or shredded pork clices, viet. spring rolls on vermicelli. It was quite fresh and filling. I definitely liked it better than Pho Vietnam but my favorite is still Pho Xuan for price, portion and meat. Pho Xuan is always packed.
