There is a little restaurant in Park Slope called Helio's that is worth a visit. We were there last night and found the atmosphere charming and the food very good. It's on the ground floor level, lots of candles flickering and very friendly and cozy. The food is Greek, and I have to say the array of spreads were really fresh, top notch ingredients and perfectly seasoned. They serve a warm pita bread that is crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. It's great. We had a perfectly cooked, juicy hamburger, fabulous fries. Their spinach pie is nothing like the multi-layered, heavy oily things you find in many Greek places. Their's is a turnover, very crisp with fresh spinach and just enough cheese to make the filling tangy and creamy. It's excellent. The prices are reasonable and the service is friendly. It's really the embodiment of a neighborhood restaurant.

  1. Their lamb kebobs with rice is one of my favorite delivery meals. The pita is great, as is the tzatziki which comes with your order.

    1. they also make a great burger...good char. the bun - not so fabulous just plain. but that's one yummy burger. i think the owner has a greek restaurant out in bay ridge also.

      1. Mmmm, love Helio's burgers! Went there for lunch last weekend. There was some seasoning in the meat that I couldn't quite place, but would probably know if someone named it. Something in the Greek/Mediterranean foods family. It was delicious, in any case! Fries are good too. So glad to see it getting some 'hound love!

        1. we live in the neighborhood and really like this place. after trying to get into several over-priced, fru-fru park slope joints, we happened in here and thought it was the best meal we'd had in a long time -- plus nice service and no attitude. i highly recommend it.
