fried wontons (rangoons/wontons w/ cream cheese)

I'm from Michigan and lived in Boston and all the Chinese take out places had the rangoons/wontons with cream cheese inside them. Like crab rangoons, but just cream cheese. Anyone know of anywhere in Manhattan that has these?

I know exactly what you are talking about and have also only seen them in the Midwest. I am on a quest for some as well, just the plain because I do not like seafood. I have also seen them at Thai places.

Yeah Im a little confused...So what you're looking for is a fried wonton with cream cheese ONLY in the middle? No meat, crab, etc?

Esentially, yes. Very little crab, mostly cream cheese. Maybe the do not exist in NYC...

I am obsessed with crab rangoons and base my local stand-by choice on whether they have them or not. I have never seem them with plain cream cheese, though.

Also, note that the plain-sounding "fried wonton" actually just has meat inside; no cream cheese (that's the one that comes with the red goo sauce).

some tiny chinese takeout places have them as appetizers and in my experience they vary from really sweet to more savoury (the red glow sauce of course would any version into a candy apple territory)
Excellent Dumpling (Lafayette btwn Canal and Walker in chinatown) has crabmeat rangoons (only listed on one of their menus and can't see it on menupages) -- but they do not have (or maybe very little) cream cheese, insteat its mostly crab (krab?) and veggie filled wontons fried.
