I guess I don't qualify as a dishwasher-loading geek, as I don't have a detailed system. But I am always rearranging the stuff my housemate puts in -- she has no idea how to load a dishwasher properly! ;-)

Ha ha. DH is not a fan of my dishwasher loading skills. I just put the stuff in any which way while he's a lot more methodical. When I start washing dishes, he stops whatever he's doing and stands in front of the dishwasher ready to load, even when I'm shooing him away. And for the times that I do the dishes when he's not home, I'll find him rearranging the dishes at a later time.

I do have to admit that he's a lot better at it than I am. I also have a tendency to overload the dishwasher because I'm trying to conserve energy. But sometimes it backfires on me as I have to run it through again as the stuff didn't get too clean.

Pretty funny. I love the image of a dishwasher loading contest! Maybe Iron Chef should do a spin-off?

If only our dishwasher (a Miele Option) had more customization options. We use mostly mugs, wine glasses, deep-sided bowls, and small pans. But the manufacturer clearly thinks we use tons of plates on a daily basis. (Who needs plates? Bowls are the way to go, especially when you eat on the run...) I'm so tired of trying to force a chili bowl into the plates-only section...

Rather than arguing over whose style is best, my husband and I rely on each other for ideas on how to get more of our "non-plate/non-silverware/non-drinking glass" dishes into the dishwasher. We need a collaborative brainstorming session each time we start the thing!

Anne

P.S. If I used more plastic, I would aspire to this Miele owner's heights of glory. (It would never work with my all glass/ceramic/breakable-stuff loads... )
