If I'm anywhere where there's a filipino restaurant or bakery, nothing beats a Halo Halo. Grinded Ice, Jackfruit, Ube Ice Cream, coconut, Evaporated Milk, Sugar, Garbanzo beans and some other assorted stuff.. Unmixed, until you Mix it together.

Places like Goldilocks or Red Ribbon or any Filipino restaurant would have it.

Trader Joe's Unfiltered Cranberry Juice cut 50/50 with some form of mineral water. On ice.

Oh, and I practically killed myself stopping an ice cream truck outside of the Roosevelt High School pool in Boyle Heights, and managed to get a really great paleta... I can't remember the brand, I'll see if I can find the wrapper in my car... but it was a truly great lime popsicle, intense real lime flavor, bits of pulp and tiny shreds of zest in the popsicle...

Ginger rosewater or orange blossom ice cream with faloodeh from Mashti Malone's.

Or their ice cream sandwich.

Or the ice cream on a stick at Ambala Dhaba.

And Xericx is dead right about halo halo -- it's great on a hot, sticky evening. Generally tastes much better in Manila than here in LA where the weather doesn't usually oppress so much. The Indonesian and Malaysian and Thai versions are quite fine too.

And one more, albeit less exotic: my wife loves the caramel apple ice blended that they're currently selling at the Coffee Bean. It's too sweet for me; I loved the caramel rooitea version they had last summer, and even wrote them to beg for its return . . . no luck.
