10 day road trip: Phoenix to Denver - looking for food finds

My boyfriend has a conference in the Phoenix/Scottsdale from 10/28-10/31 and then we are going to spend 8 days driving to Denver via Sedona, Grand Canyon, the Four Corners Region (Bluff, Cortez, Farmington) and up through Mesa Verde to Durango, Ouray, and east to Pueblo, Colorado Springs area. We are both from NYC and love food but have never been out to these places, but we are looking for the "finds," the meals that are worth the money whether cheap or expensive. I'd love to try some regional specialties as well. Any recommendations would be very welcome!

  1. Mancos Co. has a lovely bakery in the center of town which serves full meals. It is very near
Mesa verde. Sorry I don't remember the name of the place but Mancos is so tiny you can't
miss it. It is katty corner from the library.

    1. We live in Durango and would recommend The Palace Restaurant on Main Avenue, The Red Snapper, off of Main Avenue on 9th Street, and Tequila's Mexican Restaurant on Main Avenue for lunch. We have not tried the new lunch menu at Cosmopolitan Restaurant, on Main Avenue, which seems to consist of pizzas, but it is one of our favorites for dinner.
For dinner, we would recommend Cosmopolitan, on Main Avenue, the American/fish dishes at Francisco's, also on Main Avenue; Chez Grandmere, French cuisine, just off Main Avenue; or Ariano's on College Drive for old school red sauce and some Italian seafood dishes.
10 minutes out of town lies the best in steak, game and seafood at Hamilton Chop House.
