Montreal for birthday

My husband and I will be in Montreal for 4 nights to celebrate our birthdays towards the end of October. We will be staying at the Hotel Nelligan in old port. We plan to go to Bonaparte for a classic french dinner and possibly Holder for a more casual night. Are either of the restaurants in the Nelligan worth trying; Verses or Merchant Boeuf; if we are inclined not to leave the hotel? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. We would prefer to stick close to the hotel at night as we will be all over the place during the day. Thanks!

I understand you wanting to stay closer to the hotel at night, but you'd be missing on many great restos in doing so. As for the Old City, Graziela comes highly praised by food critics for great italian. Chez L'Épicier is also a good bet as well as Aszu where wine is as imnportant as food. For a splurge dinner, Toqué is within easy walking distance.

Both restaurant in the Nelligan are ok but not more. There are a few places in old montreal that are really worth trying to get a better feel of what montreal has to offer. Le Local on William, Club Chasse et Pêche on St-Claude are the 2 that comes to mind.
