Looking to meet friends tonight for awesome Sushi. Everyone coming from all over so something awesome but close to a 405 exit in the South Bay would be best.

For traditional sushi served to a mostly Japanese clientele, you might try Kanpachi in Gardena or Miura in Lomita. I prefer the sushi at Kanpachi, but I find the atmosphere at Miura more comfortable, as they speak better English so it's not as weird being the only white person there. :) If you do a search for south bay sushi on this board, you will find lots of recs.

I second both the Miura and the Kanpachi rec. Good job Nicole!

Miura's omakase is up at $65+, Kanpachi at $35+... huge difference, but hugely different in atmosphere.

Thanks. :) When I first moved to southbay I felt like there wasn't good sushi here because I was looking in the beach cities (manhattan, hermosa, redondo beach)...when I realized how much excellent japanese food there was to be had just a bit inland (gardena, lomita, etc.), it was a revelation!
