The bride and I just returned home from a great experience at Casa Mariachi in Putnam, CT.
The restaurant is located on Rt 12 at the King's Inn Hotel, just yards off of Rt. 395. At one time this restaurant was a chuck's steakhouse, a country themed home cookin' joint, and lastly a British Style pub.

The inferior has been down over with the Mexican theme. Stonework accents and paintings of Mexican scenes are on the walls. Very clean and pleasant. The hostess was genuinely happy to see us. (Refreshing!)

Immediately when we sat down a large basket of hot tortilla chips, homemade, and excellent fresh salsa was delivered. Outstanding flavor with fresh cilantro accented by fresh green onions.

We had a beef and cheese burrito that was huge. The ground beef filling was flavorful and moist. The best my wife has had and as a life long San Deigo native with a lust for tacos that's saying a lot. The rice that came with is is the best I've ever had in a Mexican restaurant. It was moist and fresh accented with peas, diced carrots, a green bean or two and seasoned perfectly.
I had a veggie fiesta platter, spinach enchilada , cheese Quesidilla, and veggie enchilada with black beans topped with fresh cheese. I asked for some hot sauce and expected a bottle of standard fare. Instead the waiter brought a bowl of housemade green hot sauce.
It was some of the best hot sauce I've ever had. Lots of heat with plenty of flavor as well.

Our bill for two large platters of food and four Mexican beers was $32.00 with tax. We thought that was a great deal.

The restrooms are clean. There is a seperate bar area that has TV's with sports on. This area is away from the diningroom, we didn't even know it was there until we checked out the restrooms.

We will definitely go back and try some of their entrees such as steaks, seafood combos, and chicken dishes. I'll post updates.

Please consider dining here and keeping this place in business. We are so thrilled to have good Mexican in this area, I'd be heartbroken if this place doesn't make it.

I've lived in nearby Glocester, RI for four years and have wanted to find a nearby Mexican restaurant. One restaurant that took the place of what was the State Line restaurant served some Mexican but it wasn't good (and the place failed). Thank you for finding Casa Mariachi! I'm going to try it soon.

Wow, thanks! Last time we were up that way we saw the sign. We prefer to go north towards Putnam instead of south towards Groton (although Ortega's in Groton is great home-style Mexican).
I know where we're headed Friday night!!!

I am a San Diego native also, and after having tried many Mexican restaurants across Massachusetts we found this place. I enjoy the cuisine here rather better than anywhere else and I frequently go back to taste the more authentic Mexican cuisine that I was used to from Southern California. I would have to fly back to San Diego to have good Mexican food if this place did not make it.
The Carne Asada and the enchiladas are wonderful. The burritos are huge and you get what you pay for. Well worth the trip.
