Hey y'all,

I am thinking about hitting up Cinnabar in Glendale for dinenr and drinks tonight. Since, I have never been there before, I really do not know much about the cuisine and atmosphere. Is it a casual or dressy kinda place? Are there any "must haves" on the menu? Any info you Chowhounds out there could provide me would be outstanding.

Thanks you in advance for you assistance.

I haven't eaten there, but met Damon, the chef, in San Francisco a few months ago. He told me about a special mac 'n' cheese he makes for kicks with three or four specialty cheese and truffle oil. I've been dreaming about it ever since. Maybe you'll be lucky and it will be on the menu tonight.

The decor is a little old school Mann's Chinese Hollywood. That is, dark, red and lacquered. It's actually a cool place for a date--not too fancy but just fancy enough. The food is good. I had something that loosely resembled Tom Yum last time I was there and it was very tastey. The drinks are good too.

Nice place, we store our wine in the building and had dinner there one night with a couple of our own bottles so didn't see the wine list. They had a really good looking tasting menu for about $45 or something. The oysters with ginger granita were soooo good. It is funky & cool without being treny & pretentious - and an easier drive than going to the West side.

I went to Cinnabar a few weeks ago. It's pretty good. They have an interesting selection of old school drinks. I had a good mai tai; I tasted my date's mojito which she loved but did nothing for me (which doesn't mean anything since I think I just don't "get" mojitos.)

I'm forgetting the food now, but I seem to remember it being pretty good but not extraordinary, and thinking the prices were quite high for what you got.

The place is TINY, btw. Even so, it was mostly empty (this was a Tuesday night, though.)

It's not dressy, btw. Neat casual dress would be fine.
