Favorite Happy Hour in San Diego?
Love a great happy hour with good, cheap drinks and half off app's..I always end up at the Brig with a fish taco and some oyster shooters..which I love but I need to branch out.
I hate when they take a $1 off drinks and food and call that a happy hour.
whats your fav's?

Better Half has a new happy hour style menu called "stressed economy". It is a three course for $15 menue from 5-7pm.

For fish tacos, I like South Beach Bar & Grill, low key and hopping. For some good macadamia crusted baked brie, I like World Famous, for tenderloin sliders, at the bar, I'm all over Donovan's and Clays is just great.

If you're over 35, Bully's East in Mission Valley
Their bartenders actually know how to pour and mix a good cocktail, if you hit it just right they put chafing dishes of their prime rib tips out for FREE. (The rest of their bar menu is decent and I think they discount some of it during happy hour, or at least they used to) Enough TVs with sports to keep the guys happy and enough guys to keep the girls happy ;-)

Hmm. Chowhound field trip?

If you like sorta clubby, sorta seedy kind of places. Think of it as the gussied up version of Longhorns ;-D

'gussied up version of Longhorns'....are you running smack on my beloved dive?
DD..classic!
Haven't been to Bully's MV since the Playboy Club left the Valley..hee hee
Always been a Bully's girl but forget about it tucked away off Texas street..

Dis Bully's? Never. It's one of the best unknown Happy Hours in town ;-). It's where the adults go to party.

I was talking about Longhorn's..the less gussied up of the two..

Oh, I've been there- just not for happy hour and not with 'hounds.

Haven't been to Bully's in MV for a while but, those ends were very tasty.

And if you're older than 85, Red Tracton's in Solana Beach does a great happy hour. It starts around noon and goes until closing.
Seriously, even if you're not collecting social security checks, the bar scene has some of the best people watching in all of San Diego, especially during track season.

... and the regulars there are known to hit at least one big Pick Six at Del Mar every summer,so maybe you'll hear something at the bar and make a little cash too. :)

Yes, they have some pretty good discounts on their app's during happy hour. Some up to 50%. And quite an extensive list of choices...Bully's East that is.

I will take the incomong flak, but I like the HH bar tacos at Fidels and now its now longer sister restaurant Norte. The Carnitas, Carne Asada and Milenesa are very tasty.
Man, Fidel's happy hour was legendary. We'd roll in there, order a bunch of the sampler plates (can't recall the name of it now, but it had little tacos, rolled tacos, nachos, etc.) and have a blast. They do have fantastic carne asada, but after a few pitchers, who knows anymore? :)

Extraordinary Desserts in Little Italy. I had a quick perusal this weekend and noticed that their happy hour is "back". I believe they have cheese, panini, and bruschetta specials.

Tractor Room in Hillcrest. Its just an hour starting when they open (5 or 5:30?) There are about 5 appetizers for under $5, a quality wine for $3-5 and, my favorite part, they pick one liquor (it was Jim Beam one night, a gin and a vodka on another night) and make you any drink with it for $5. And they make a very high end drink there- fresh juices, etc. Fun speakeasy atmosphere too.
Terra in Hillcrest also has low price drinks and half off lots of their appetizers. Probably more wine and food choices than Tractor room, but not as good on the hard liquor or atmosphere.
After some searching the greater downtown area, I think those two are best combinations of quality food and drink for low price. Both put the Brig to shame.

Bite. Great small plates and delicious champagne cocktails. The cocktails are around $4 and the dishes are $4-8.

Bite definitely has a nice happy hour, and it is available on the weekend too. I second the Happy Hour at Tractor Room, if you get the right booze, and they food menu is nice.
I like Hamilton's for the $1 off local beers
I liked the looks of the Happy Hour at Cowboy Star when I was there for dinner a few weeks ago.

Krispy..
Did you get to Cowboy Star yet for the Happy Hour?
yeah, we went during the Holidays when we had some days off, loved the Happy Hour there. It wasn't crowded, good prices, and the items on the bar menu were outstanding. The cheese tart was kind of "meh" even though it sounded awesome, the venison sausages flavorful and interesting, and the beef medallions incredible.

Thanks Krispy...look forward to Cowboy Star for happy hour.

Went to South Beach Grill for happy hour about a week ago, hadn't been for a while. The good news is that the prices haven't changed and the chow is still good, the bad news is that they only take cash, no more credit cards. I guess even with their business volume the credit card transaction fees were too much to absorb.

South Beach now brings drinks to your table! My favorite part of the HH there is the dozen oysters for $12.95. You get a little grit with some of them, but they have always been fresh, juicy and briny.
wow I didn't think I would ever see the day they would bring a drink to my table haha. I know where I am going for lunch this weekend haha
Permalink | Reply
Now all they need to do is to switch what they have on tap with that pizza place across the street and everything would be perfect!
1000% agree with you! Can we get someone from Newport Pizza to bring beers over? haha

SD Union business section today had an article about Happy Hours and how bars and restaurants are seeing sales decline and finally are doing something about it..they're bringing back the Happy Hour.
Ivy Hotels, Quarter Kithcen bar has $5 martinis most evenings from 5-9pm..
Clays in LJ has well drinks for $4 and $3 draft beers..
Any new fav's?

Not new, but one of my favorites is te bar at JSix. Specialty drinks are either $5 or $6, can't remember. Many appetizers to choose from at half price. It goes until 8pm I believe.
Not very foodie, but I love Chevy's HH. Half price appy's, cheap drinks.
Also Baja Betty's. All appys are $3, Margaritas (which are strong and good) are also $3.

Love JSix..
Baja Betty's..we used to go with our 'girlies' and that place is a riot..what is the other place down the street with the Cajun food and a great happy hour that was actually quite good..
BruceT..La Bastide & Yanni's sounds great!

In Scripps Ranch, there are at least 2 for your consideration: La Bastide (French bistro) has half-price appetizers and special prices on selected wines, from about 4 to 6 (not sure if it's weekdays or every day). And Yanni's Bistro (Greek) has half-price meze from their very extensive menu from3 to 6 (weekdays only, I think).

so glad to see HH making a comeback. what we really need is a site like urbandrinks.com to branch out to san diego! started in portland, but now encompasses and posts happy hours to include seattle, pheonix, dallas, DC etc. have emailed them several times to add san diego, perhaps if we all do, they'll set us up proper!

Another decent one to add... House of Blues downtown. $1 domestic beers, $2 tap beers (not a big selection, but not bad), and $4 martinis. Apps half-off... wasn't incredibly crowded on a Friday evening. So, it won't knock anyone's socks off, but the prices are great and the food is decent.

I really like the happy hour in the gaslamp at Altitude sky bar m-f 5-7pm, and sun all dayy, $4 domestic beers, $5 premium wells & 1/2 off artisan flatbreads, awesome view of the city 22 stories up at the marriott. I also like happy hour in Ocean Beach at Nick's at the Pier, 4-7pm every day: 22oz drafts for pint prices, $5 off pitchers, $4 wines, and awesome food specials. Then for Happy Hour in East County, try Hooley's Irish Pub in Grossmont Center. mon all day & tues-sun: 3-7pm AND Late Night 10pm-close: $1.50 off Drafts, $1 off bottled beers, cocktails, and wine, $3 off bottles of wine, $3 off appetizers.

Believe it or not the Lobby Bar at theHilton, across from PETCO has a great Happy Hour. They validate for parking.
Off of the bar they have several patios that have great seating areas and views of the bay and Coronado.
