Richmond, near VCU

We're meeting our son for dinner this weekend in Richmond in the area around Virginia Commonwealth University. My Richmond geography is poor (we're from DC) and my son is on a temporary assignment there and hasn't gone to too many places besides Buz and Ned's barbecue (which sounds great to me). Anyone have any particular favorites in the VCU area? Not interested in upscale or designer food . . . got plenty of that in DC. Would enjoy most anything else in any category. Any rex? Thanks for replying on short notice.

There are several wonderful spots close to VCU, among my favorites are Comfort, The Black Sheep, and Edo's Squid (or for a funkier experience, try Edo's sister restaurant, Mamma 'Zu. Both serve essentially the same delicious Italian menu but Edo's takes reservations whereas Mamma Zu's first come, first serve.)
