George Brown open house

FYI, there is an open house on Oct. 28 for any of us who want to get a look inside the new cooking school facility. The message below went out this morning. I'm assuming I got it because of being on the GB restaurant menu mailing list. It came from

Also, the latest I have on the restaurant opening is Nov. 3. Does anybody have more info on that?

  1. I think it was sent out to Industry people. Not sure that it was intended for public but I may be wrong.

      I'm not in the industry. My only connection is being on the menu mailing list.

        I'm in the same situation as idnas.....I'm not in the industry, but on their mailing list. Also looking forward to the eventual launch of their restaurant. Hope it will be before Christmas.

          It'll be open on Nov 3 to the public. It has been open for private functions and college staff for the last month already. The delay for public opening is due to the wait for a liquor license.

          If you walk by during service you'll see customers eating inside.

        Nope, it was sent to me too. I'm certainly not an industry person, I am just on the mailing list to get the menus for the restaurant when they change.

      3. I see no reason why CH'ers should not go to the open house on Oct. 28. We are all taxpayers supporting the college, and I'm sure the surprises they offer are good nibblings and entertainment by students. It will be interesting to see what changes are offered. Kinda like the all new CBC-2?

        1. The invitation says it's to "our community at large" for a reason.

              OK, the reason for my confusion was the invite that I received:

              Good afternoon Industry Professionals!

              As you may already know the Centre for Hospitality & Culinary Arts, George Brown College has undergone an update and a few new additions. This is a very exciting time for us as we now have a beautiful new building complete with new labs, classrooms and a brand new student run restaurant. We would like you to come for a visit on October 28th anytime between noon to 3 pm to tour the labs, meet the faculty and staff of the CHCA - Centre for Hospitality & Culinary Arts, George Brown College. We would like to share this day with you, therefore, we hope you can stop by. See the invite below for additional details.

                ah, okay, so the invite is for the industry community (perhaps using the term "at large" may have been confusing). Thanks for clearing that up.

                  It looks to me like they sent out (at least) two different invitations - one for the industry and one for the community at large.

            2. This may well be stupid question, so please forgive....I thought the restaurant for the GB chef school was to be located at 215 King E. From these invitations, it sounds as though there may also be a resto at the Adelaide location?

                The restaurant is on king, but this invitation is for the school campus on adelaide. It has gone through a major renovation for the past year. The left side of the building had been gutted and literally rebuilt. You'll notice a big difference between the left vs right side (original facade) of the building.

                Current chefs in charge are head chef Oliver Li (Siegfried's), sous Paul Benallick (Steak Frites/Auberge/Canoe) and sous Silva.
