Georgia National Fair---must eats?

wabbitslayer Oct 9, 2008 05:54 PM

After a ridiculous week at work, I'm taking tomorrow off and heading south to the Ga. National Fair in Perry w/ the kids. I haven't been to a fair in 15+ years.....so what are the "must eat" fair foods that will make my tummy happy and my doctor cringe?

Definitely the apple dumplings! I haven't been in years and years but that was always our favorite.

I now know why this only got one response.....there are no "must eats" there. What a utterly, huge, COLOSSAL disappointment (from a food standpoint, anyway).

Funnel cake...no vendor had them straight from the fryer, various "fresh squeezed" lemonades were OK, but nothing I haven't done myself recently, fries from two different places were soft and limp, corn dogs from three different places were all obviously the
"step below sysco" frozen kind (even the "hand dipped" ones). The apple dumpling I tried was OK, and we got a couple of smoked turkey legs at the end, which was the best thing there.

Worth going to, but my now older palate knows: eat BEFORE you go!
