good non-high end dinner in Guerneville area?

Spending a long weekend at the Dawn Ranch Lodge in Guerneville. Don't know the area at all. I don't want to fine dine, but of course I want to eat well. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  1. Dawn Ranch itself has pretty decent food.

    1. Thanks vlaing. We are there for three nights. Any other suggestions? Is the Union Hotel great or disgusting, for example? Seems to not be a consensus out there.

We were up in Guerneville a few weeks ago and grabbed a great casual lunch a the Korbel Winery deli. If you're out and about during the day it's wonderful! We also head up to the Union Hotel a few times a year. The food is good - not gourmet but, can be delicious. The owner Barbara does make a fabulous tiramisu. You'll get more than your monies worth and the atmosphere is very cool and old italian nostalgic. We grew up with vacation homes in the Russian River area so we enjoy it for not just the food but, also the wonderful memories. And, Occidental is a cute little town and part of a fun day trip. I hope this helps.

      2. We were just up there and went to Stumptown Brewery in Guernville. Loved it. It's a short drive from where you are.

The Hefeweisen (that they brew there) was great, and the BBQ was surprisingly good and cheap. The sauce was a little too sweet, but that was my only complaint. They also have a lovely deck that overlooks the river.

        1. Mosaic in the area is very good the couple times I've been there.

            Where is Mosaic?

It is in Forestville. We discovered it on trip to Guernville.

            1. Try Cafe les Jumelles, in Monte Rio, just a few miles west on Hwy 116. I live nearby and eat there quite often. It's very casual, but the food is a cut above what you'd expect. I've probably tried just about everything on the menu and I haven't found a thing that I don't like. The burgers are cooked perfectly and served on house made potatoe buns that hold up to the burger and taste good on their own. The soups are consistently excellent, especially any variation of lentil soup. Salads are special because of the house cured onions and cucumbers. If I'm feeling thin, I love the old fashioned chocolate malts. The wine list is limited but surprisingly good for such a small, simple place, or you can stop by Sophie's Cellars about a block east of the cafe, on Hwy 116, and pick up a bottle. Cafe les Jumelles is among the restaurants in the area that waive corkage for a bottle from Sophie's. Service is friendly but can be slow, don't go when you are in a hurry.

Thanks all. Kathleen, I made resies for Jumelles for tonight! I will also look at Bistro les Copains and I found a lot of folks online writing about how they liked Chez Patrick so I'll check that out too.

I hope you will report on Bistro des Copains if you go. I was going to recommend it, but I haven't been there since they changed chefs. I love the place itself, it feels like a friendly neighborhood bistro. I love to start with oysters. The food was solid under the previous chef and I hope it still is!

              2. Flying out tomorrow and will be staying in Guerneville thru Monday. I've made reservations at Starlight Wine Bar in Sebastopol tomorrow and Mosaic on Sunday. Maybe we'll try the place in Monte Rio that someone recommended.

How is the Starlight? Looks romantic and as it's our first nite in the area, thought that it would set the tone for our laid back weekend.
