re: chicken kabob
Live in Paris, used to be in the states with a kid at U.Md. At that time found my favorite breakfast place in the world. Make trips to D.C. now and never, never miss breakfast at Florida Grill. Yes the neighborhood is not great and is probably a schlep from wherever you are, but those apples, those biscuits, those PANCAKES. Do it, do it now

Both Ambrosia and Ambrosia Grill have nice breakfasts with greek accents - gyro meat, feta and option. Omelets are pretty good too. If you want to go a bit more upscale, I like the breakfast buffet at the Marriott at Rio. Not too expensive, but nicer atmosphere, made to order omelets, etc.

I really like the Parkway Deli. It is very diner style. There will likely be a wait if you go on the weekend but the line moves fast. I've always had good service there and I like the breakfast and lunch a lot. It is so not a fancy breakfast but if you want a diner style, give it a shot.

Good breakfast spots in Montgomery County are hard to find. I would try Mosaic Cafe on Halpine Road in Rockville. They serve breakfast from 8:00 am til 2:00 pm every day. And while I haven't been there for breakfast, if it's as good as the lunch I had there this past Sunday, it would be really good. Plus, it's a nicer space than a diner.
