Hi all,

I live in the UK and when in the States I love the Little Debbie coffee cakes :

But I'm sure, like all pre-packed food, they're probably better homemade - has anyone got a recipe for something like this so that I could make them at home in England?

Thanks, Chris

P.S. I'm also a sucker for 'Honeybuns' but I'm sure the artificial-ness is what makes then so good.....

This was my dad's recipe. It doesn't have so much of a cake texture, more of a cross between a very tender scone and a cake, but the flavor is close to the Little Debbie's cakes. It's ridiculously easy to make.

Cinnamon Flop

Preheat oven 350 degrees

1 c sugar
1 tbs butter
½ tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
2 ½ c flour
1 c milk

Grease and flour an 8” baking pan. Combine all ingredients, pour in pan and generously sprinkle the top with brown sugar and cinnamon. Generously dot the top with butter. Bake for about 30 minutes. Test center with toothpick, will come out clean when done.

That's his original recipe. I've modified it slightly by melting the butter for the top and drizzling it over the batter to get better coverage instead of dotting. The problem with this cake is I need to make it when there's a houseful of people to devour it immediately or I'll end up eating way more of it than is good for me at one sitting!
