53rd and Lex

I’m staying at the Marriott at Lex and 53rd for a couple of days and I am not familiar with that neighborhood What is around there worth checking out. I’m trying to stay on the low end of things and want to stick with comfort type foods, and nothing too adventurous. (My traveling partner is a “plain food” New Englander)

Thanks for the help

All of the options listed so far are good, in my opinion. Maybe not Houston's but only because it's not really "low end" of the price scale.

If you want Italian, the best reasonable option in that 'hood is Luna Piena, on 53rd just west of 2nd ave. There's nothing too "out there" at Luna if you guys want Italian.

      PJ Clarke's...915 third ave (@ 55th)
      Exactly what you're looking for

I live near there and some of my neighborhood favorites are Le Bateau Ivre on 51st btw 2nd and 3rd (and it serves until 4am!), Caffe Martier (2nd ave btw 54th and 53rd) for coffee and breakfast, and O'Neill's (Irish pub) on 3rd ave btw 45th and 46th. all are reasonable, comforting, and (imo) better than any of the generic options in the neighborhood.

Ok, for your rather mundane tastes, I would suggest Houston's - 54th/3rd Ave, PJ Clarke's - 55th/3rd, or if you're ready for something more interesting (yet quite reasonable) go to Jubile for French Bistro fare - 54th/ between 1st & 2nd Ave. Their mussels are the best in NYC.
