Lunch between St. Louis and Cape Girardeau

My husband and I are arriving in St. Louis (by air) in late morning next Friday, picking up a rental car and heading down 55 to Cape Girardeau. I'd love to have suggestions for a lunch stop along the way -- other than fast food at the highway exits, please! We've stopped in Ste. Genevieve before, but would like something closer to St. Louis for this trip that provides an opportunity for me to reintroduce myself and introduce my husband to St. Louis cuisine. Many thanks.

  1. I have three recommendations listed from North to South. First is Frankie G's it is at exit 186 off of I-55. Turn right at the end of the ramp. It is on the end of the shopping plaza on the right hand side of the road. Great Salads, Burgers, Pasta they have a large menu and
it is all done pretty well. Next is the Blue Owl in Kimmswick. Same exit take a left then turn right on 61/67 and then a left on K and follow the signs. I have never eaten here
but it gets great reviews and has been on Paula Dean's (i think) food network show.
Finally, Bobby Tom's BBQ at the Pevely exit (180) turn left it will be on the right.
Great Pulled Pork, Pork Steaks, Chicken and Ribs as well as, baked beans, slaw and potato salad.

    Have a great trip.

Thanks, gregl. You've given me exactly what I was looking for. Fortunately we make the trip often enough that we now have options down the line.

    2. Once you land in Cape, you have to run out to New Hamburg to Schindlers Tavern, est. 1934 for a bolgna burger. Undoubtedly the best cheeseburger (topped w/ fried bologna) that I ever ate. I couldn't get the double in my mouth. The toasted onion battered deep fried green beans were rockin' too!
