I hate to disappoint you but other than the American Asian fare, you will not find any authentic chinese food in Asheville. We drive to Charlotte for REAL chinese. I've tried all the suggested places and none of them are authentic. Some of the offered variety are delicious but are American. I was born and raised in Asia so should know what authentic tastes like.

I never found a great Chinese place in Asheville. The one on Tunnel Road, across from the mall, has some pretty good dishes. And some o.k. dishes...
I tried Asiana Grand once, with misgivings...It is wonderful if your sole criteria is eating a lot with no regard for flavor...I tried the Oriental Pavilion in it's first incarnation - wasn't impressed. I have not tried it with the newest owners.
Asheville has good Japanese, Thai and Indian...Someone could do well opening a good Chinese place.

Has the name changed? That doesn't sound like the one I described - it wasn't a buffet...just looked at E. Buffet on line, not the same place! I tried E. Buffet once, 'nuf said...
The one I mentioned is directly across the street from the mall. The k-mart plaza is behind it. It is a free-standing building, close to the road, looks like it might have been a Sambo's in another lifetime.
Just found the name on a search: China Palace, at 4 S. Tunnel Rd.
ISTR an eggplant dish that was very good.-

Thats too funny! I was in another area in that period, but I guess enough late night visits created a permanent architectural memory despite my post clubbing condition...It was the only sit-down food option open after the bars closed, so we were there frequently. Their breakfasts were good!
