Cuban in Palm Beach Gardens?

Hi, I will be staying at the PGA Resort in Palm Beach Gardens for a conference next month and wondering if there are any good Cuban places near by? I live in SF and there are none. I've been craving really good Cuban food since I went to Miami earlier this year.

Thanks!

  1. Hi again, I will be in Palm Beach Gardens next week and thought I would try again. Anyone? If no good Cuban in the area, any other recommendations? Thanks!

What about Don Ramon's? I can't personally vouch for it, but it seems to have been there a while... with "authentic" cuban cuisine... ???

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out!

Definitely Don Ramon's. There are several locations but the one closest to you has closed. The next best bet is the original on US 1 just south of Forest Hill Blvd in WPB. You will love it -- great food. IMO much better than Havana.

Well, I have only experienced Havana in WPB and it was very good. However, it is in a questionable section of town but that doesn't bother me. It's not a destination place.

There are two options that I have never tried but have heard about. There's El Colonial (no atmosphere) in Lake Park and Casa Cuba in Jupiter. Casa Cuba seems to be more of a place you might be looking for. There's a Don Ramon in Gardens on A1A alt. in the Promenade. See link for reviews on Cuban restos in the area.

Don Ramon's at The Promenade on Alternate A1A has closed.

Freakerdude: The area around Havana is questionable? I was not aware of that. When I fly into WPB airport Havana is a frequent stop for me as it is so close to the airport and easy to find. I agree the food is good but not a destination place. Now Troy's in Boynton is scary, what with the crackhead sitting in the bucketseat begging for loose change and everybody looking at me with a WTF is he doing here expression on their faces. BTW, have you tried the Q place on Southern and Dixie yet? Is it in a "questionable section of towm"?

I'm considering the fact that this person is staying at the PGA National Resort on PGA Blvd. It's best to lay out exactly where I might be sending someone and what to expect. Some people will find the immediate area questionable and nobody wants a "suprise". You're safe if you stay in the immediate parking lot and I'll leave it at that.

And yes as to whether some sections of Dixie Hwy in WPB are questionable. As to the safety of the area where C&C is I am not sure, but I will go sometime soon. There's not many places that I won't go personally.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I ended up going to Cabana in West Palm Beach and had a great time. I am definitely no expert on Cuban food but thought the food was fantastic! We started off with a pitcher of Sangria, split the appetizer sampler and I ordered some dish with chicken and shrimp the waiter recommended. My friend ordered the ropa veja (?). Some beef dish that was really tasty. Both dishes were very flavorful and left me not wanting to go back to California! Can't wait to go back next year.
