Osteria - report and thanks for the recommendation
Several weeks ago I posted to request a recommendation for an Italian, not red-gravy, restaurant convenient to the Library. Several people recommended Osteria. We went last night, prior to seeing Marcella and Victor Hazan at the Library, and the restaurant wwas perfect! We had a great meal with terrific service. the meal was beautifully paced so that we walked out exactly at 7pma ss we had requested.
The meal - we shared an antipasti - a plate of vegatables. It sounds sort of blah but wa sexcellent. The best were slightly cooked, marinated cucember slices and amazing carrots- thinly sliced and I think poached in butter. The carrots were very delicate and sweet.
Next we shared a plate of guinea hen tortillini with hazelnuts. Not as marvelous as the vegatables but still very good. For the main course I had roasted beek cheeks and my friend had roasted pig - a special. The beef cheeks were marlvelous. Three large pieces that were like pot roast that had gone to heaven. Very flavorful and melting tender with little charred bit that added tasty excitement. The pig had lovely robust, piggy flavor and was moist and succulent. It was served wioth a nice large piece of cracking. For deser we shared chocolate flan with pistacchio gelato. The flan was more like a molten chocolate cake but very chocolatey and the gelato was exceptionaly creamy.
The Hazans were very entertaining and delightful.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Great recommendation!
