I'm going to Mia Restaurant and Bistro on Rt. 37 in Toms River. Has anyone been there ?

  1. I do recall receiving a coupon from them when they opened but haven't had a chance to try it. Please let us know what you think.

Well, we went. I had visited their website and the menu looked good and the pictures on the site showed a great looking sushi bar. I had a hankering for some sushi. Guess what ? No sushi.
Their bread, which I was told is made in house, was really good. Light and crusty. I had the tempura battered artichokes for starters and they were good. Crispy and not greasy at all.
For the entree I had a pasta dish with shrimp, chicken, artichokes, and pine nuts in a vodka sauce. The vodka sauce was among the worst I've tasted. Really heavy with an unappealing taste. The shrimp were fine, but the chicken tasted like those pre-cooked grilled chicken breasts you get in the supermarket. It was actually tough and didn't take on the flavor of the sauce. It had to be cooked days ago and refrigerated. If there were pine nuts they did a good job of hiding them. There was one artichoke heart.
Oddly enough, my wife and her father also had chicken dishes and both said their chicken was tough. How do you make chicken tough ?
The kicker was when the check came. I had printed a 20% off coupon from their website. I gave it to the waitress and she said that because someone had ordered off of the special menu, their computer wouldn't allow for the 20% off on our check, therefore I couldn't use the coupon. Incredible.
      Another restaurant destined for failure.

hmm... 20% off. I would have told the server his/her tip was the coupon. And with rare exceptions, chicken is generally awful in restaurants. I think they are so afraid of issues with food poisoning they tend to overcook it to the point that it's like shoe leather.

You know, I won a gift certificate for this place at a charity event 2 months ago. It had to be mailed to me because the restaurant forgot to deliver it to the event. I still haven't received it....now I don't feel as if I lost anything!
