Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Mission: Friday Night Dinner--Kinda Romantic, New American Food, Downtown

I'm having dinner with a guy I'm visiting in NYC. I feel like if I don't take the restaurant reservation into my own hands, we won't end up someplace good and up to my standards. :)

Looking for a place downtown (he lives in Battery Park, I'll be on the UES, but willing to travel as far down as needed). I usually always order fish/seafood at restaurants, but it doesn't need to be a seafood place. He actually tends to like fish that much, so there needs to be steak, pasta or some other things on the menu (no Japanese). I usually like New American, pan-Asian (not looking for "ethinic" Asian hole-in-the-wall for this meal), Californian..."clean" food. I's prefer something hip (but not too hip) over old-school that's not too loud and can be a little romantic. I hate when tables are right on top of each other.

Open for suggestions. Thanks!

  1. I think Bouley would be great, kinda romantic but not overly formal the Phyllo Crusted Florida Shrimp and Maine Lobster are amazing, so is the squab. Service is wonderful and they have a nice wine list.

    1. Check out Forge...it's a newer restaurant in Tribeca and will work for both of your tastes. Great atmosphere and cocktails, to boot! http://www.forgenyc.com/
