I am looking to have a pig roast and have a couple questions:

1. Does anyone know of where I can rent the equipment necessary for a pig roast?

2. Where is the best place to get a full sized pig, suitable for 90-100 people?

Thanks.

I think recent query's about equipment have been unsuccessful. Pigs may be available at Marin Sun Farms.

Suggestions for caterers.

I knew there was a recent thread. It was simply a case of using the right search word, rent.

I'm headed to a pigroast in the mission in a few weeks. Check around. Have you tried checking with catering rental companies? Start with Classic and maybe someone might be able to help..http://sanfrancisco.classicpartyrentals.com/products/cooking_equipment

Thanks. I'll check with them. I'd be interested to hear about the pig roast you goto and find out where they got the equipment and the pig itself. Thanks.

You're right to think of Classic or another catering rental company. I know that Classic will rent a large open grill about 5 feet long that will take a spit attachment. The spit is motor operated. It looks very much like the picture in kitchenstink's post below. When you get your pig one option is to split it open ( down the belly ) and debone it ...... you can then season it and stuff it with herbs, etc. ....... sew it back up. It's a lot of extra work but it will pay off when you go to carve it up. Wire or chicken wire around the main body of your pig is also a very good idea. It takes a long time to cook the pig through and get the skin crispy ...... parts could slough off if not secured. Look forward to hearing about your experience.
