Fred's Bbq in Irving...anyone tried it?

I was on Yahoo today getting ready to search for something, and one of the articles on the front page was about great BBQ restaurants. When I see things like that, I normally just scan them and they have the normal famous bbq places in the US on them.

But today was different. Today they had one named Fred's BBQ restaurant in Irving. I've lived in Dallas for 17 years. Never heard of it. Searched this one has mentioned it.

For years I've bemoaned the fact that I can't get great bbq in DFW. Please please please, someone tell me that they've been to this place and it is great. I don't care if it's a 45 minute drive from Plano.

Has anyone been there?

here's a link to the blurb from Yahoo:

  1. Wow. This is RIGHT by my house and I've never been there :) I'm going to have to check it out, I'll report back.

    1. It is terrible. I lived in Irving for 25 years and left to Lewisvile the past 5. I would avoid it as I never cared for it. Last time I went I could hardly detect any smoke and there meat was covered in sauce. It has been an Irving institution for years but I have still to figure out why.

      1. I went and was not impressed.

        1. hav not been to fred's in over a yr i think its GOOD! not sure its great
